Pasaulinio kino kontekste, „Taivano kinas“ nuo devintojo deš. buvo gerai pažįstamas, pelnęs gerą reputaciją tiek kultūriniu, tiek meniniu požiūriu. Tačiau po devintąjame deš. vykusio Taivano naujojo kino judėjimo tarptautinis diskursas apie Taivano kiną yra gana sulėtėjęs. Nepaisant fakto, kad vėlesnis Taivano kinas įgavo įvairias formas (dokumentiniai ir komerciniai filmai), filmai taivaniečių kalba (Taiyupian) atsidūrė aklavietėje savo diskurso raidos platesniame kino istorijos kontekste. Remdamasis savo praktine patirtimi ir bendradarbiavimu su kino pramone, dr. Chen Pin-Chuan paskaitoje nagrinės Taivano kino režisierių ypatybės po Taivano naujojo kino eros. Tikslas yra pažvelgti į dabartinį Taivano kino kontekstą tiek iš autoriaus, tiek iš industrijos perspektyvos.
Apie lektorių:
Chen Pin-Chuan yra buvęs Taivano kino ir audiovizualinio instituto direktorius
(TFAI). Jis yra mokslininkas, kuris specializuojasi Taivano filmuose, dokumentikoje ir archyviniame filme. Pin-Chuan gavo daktaro laipsnį Londono King koledže ir dėstė kino bei
dokumentinių filmų kūrimą, taip pat kino teoriją įvairiuose universitetuose. Vienas iš jo mokslinių interesų krypčių yra filmų ir dokumentikos kūrimo panaudojimas socialiniam įtraukimui. Be penkiolikos metų patirties aukštojo mokslo srityje, Pin-Chuanas 2016–2019 m. dirbo TFI direktoriaus pareigomis, per kurias savo laiką skyrė filmų išsaugojimui ir restauravimui. Šiuo metu jis yra Taipėjaus atstovybės JK Kultūros skyriaus direktorius ir yra atsakingas už meno ir kultūrinių mainų organizavimą bei Taivano kino paveldo populiarinimą pasaulinei auditorijai.

The Abstract of the Lecture:
In the spectrum of global cinema, “Taiwan Cinema” has been a recognisable entity since the 1980s, earning a strong reputation from both cultural and artistic perspectives. However, following the Taiwan New Cinema movement of the 1980s, international discourse on Taiwanese cinema appears to have relatively stagnated. Despite the subsequent diversification of Taiwanese cinema into various forms, including documentaries and commercial films, contemporary Taiwanese cinema, particularly from the 2000s onwards, apart from localized explorations, historical and archeological investigations in areas such as Taiwanese-Language films (Taiyupian), appears to have reached a standstill in terms of its discourse development within the broader context of film history. Drawing from dr. Chen Pin-Chuan’s practical experience and engagement with the film industry, this presentation will examine the characteristics of Taiwanese film directors in the post Taiwan New Cinema era. The aim is to look at the current landscape of Taiwanese cinema from both an authorship and an industry perspective, providing a sense for discussing further research directions in the realm of Taiwan Cinema.
About the speaker:
Chen Pin-Chuan is the former Director of the Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute
(TFAI), formerly known as the Taiwan Film Institute (TFI). He is a scholar
specialising in Taiwanese film, documentary, and archival film. Pin-Chuan received
his Ph.D. in Film Studies from King’s College London and taught film and
documentary-making, as well as film theory, as a full-time faculty member at various
universities. One of his research interests focuses on the use of film and
documentary-making as a method of social engagement. In addition to his fifteen years of experience in higher education, Pin-Chuan served as the Director of the TFI from 2016 to 2019, during which he dedicated his time to film preservation and restoration. Currently, he is the Director of the Cultural Division at the Taipei Representative Office in the UK, where he is responsible for organising art and cultural exchanges and promoting Taiwan’s film heritage to a global audience.
